Come as you are- broken, lost, confused, or in the depths of sin. Come as you are, not as you wish you were or think you should be. Simply, come as you are.
The beauty of the Gospel is that, on our own, we cannot attain perfection; and that’s perfectly okay. We don’t have to, because Someone else already did. Jesus lived a perfect life and took on our sin so that we could put on his righteousness and be in right standing with God. Come as you are.
God takes the broken, lost, confused, and sinful man and restores and redeems. God doesn’t call the equipped. He, instead, refines and equips those He calls. Come as you are.
Jesus’s death and resurrection ensure that we no longer have to strive to be good enough. We no longer have to clean ourselves up and have our lives in order to come before Him. If we will simply come, He can and will do the work. So remember, come as you are. If you do, you won’t stay as you are.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” 2 Corinthians 5:17-21 ESV
